Inland Empire Floral

A logo I made for a friend’s florist business in Spokane, Washington, USA. The typography is handmade, starting from pencil sketches and ending up in clean vector forms. The shapes continue from letter to letter and interact. An animated version playing with the connections is in the video above. Below is an optically corrected version.

Helicopter Mom - v0.2.

A pixel animation video, presented as a trailer for an upcoming art game. No audio, but instead there’s a fancy ‘mute’ symbol in the corner. Some retiming and minor graphical changes compared to v.0.1.

Jazz Dance lettering

I made these works for Helsinki Traditional Jazz Dancers group for use in a poster (Jazz History Through Times being the name of the performance). They liked the style so much I even reused the first image as their logo. The texts were made directly with an ink bottle pipette, which turned out to be a good way to keep fluidity and randomness in the letters.

The Shining

Illustrations from Stanley Kubrick’s movie The Shining, made for architect Juhani Pallasmaa’s book The Architecture of Image. The images are made with wax crayons, ink and scratching on board. The originals are about 12 x 9 cm, most were halved in size for the book. There are around 20 illustrations in total, about half of which are posted here.

Blogistania - program identity

A title sequence & program identity for a Finnish National Broadcasting show about bloggers. The show was called Blogistania, which sounds like a country name, so we made a promotional video showing the landscapes and scenery of the country.  We used elements from the series (for example crafts and baking). The logo was made from one continuous line, which also allowed its use physically in the background of the end titles (video below). Concept & execution of the program identity was done with Riikka Kurki, logotype & cinematography by me.
